Smartcards
Smartcards are particularly suited to applications where a relatively large amount of data has to be stored in a portable, user-acceptable, read-writable form, or in a form that can be easily updated (see next page).
Other features include
- substantial support base for applications.
- contact, close proximity (contactless cards) and a larger range vicinity read capability.
- medium to reasonably high data storage capabilities.
- relatively low cost cards and read technology.
- better and more selective security capabilities – including encryption - than other card-based technologies.
