Smart change of management
Sheffield City Council is working with the European Centre of Excellence for AIDC to manage the 68,000 smart|Sheffield cards its residents currently use in libraries and leisure facilities.
The AIDC Centre manages smart|Sheffield card services from its Sheffield office in Chapeltown. The contract is initially for 12 months.
AIDC Centre Smartmedia Director Ken Bellamy explained the Centre would be the first line helpdesk for the public.
"We very much hope to work with the Council to expand the service into other areas of activity, such as schools other types of leisure services and work collectively with other card application areas such as transport to develop a scheme that is truly of value to the people of Sheffield.
"The Centre is dedicated to encouraging the use of smartcards as a powerful force for social inclusion and customer service development. It is an exciting time for smartcard technology and it’s our job to promote confidence in that technology, by helping people understand the intrinsic safeguards designed into smartcard use and by providing strategic guidance and an understanding of how it can help deliver more customer centric services. " said Ken Bellamy.
