The development of smart cities and intelligent communities has been identified as a cornerstone of future EU policy. This involves integrated cities where energy, transport and environmental factors are being effectively controlled by new developments in technologies such as RFID, smart media and the Internet of Things (IoT).

As part of the Enterprising Barnsley Digital Network Programme, you are invited to a free business networking seminar at the DMC in Barnsley to understand key issues such as:

• What a future smart city of Barnsley might look like
• The Internet of Things – What it is and the implications it may bring
• Understanding Smart media and how it could impact on your business

Speakers include:

• Peter Collins is the Marketing Director of The AIDC Centre which is a leading exponent of automatic identification and data capture. It is involved at the heart of the EU’s developments for the Internet of Things and the development of Smart City technology.
• Mick Davies is Chairman of LASSeO, the Local Authority Smartcard Standards e-Organisation, which sets the standards for all smartcard use for applications such as travel, leisure, libraries etc. It is a key player in setting some of the standards for future smart city applications.

The event will conclude with lunch and networking opportunities.
